The Myers Cocktail IV is an industry staple. Why? Because it’s full of essential nutrients that many people lack in their diet. It consists of magnesium, calcium, B vitamins (including B12), and vitamin C. All of which are amazing for your health and should help you feel your best. It has been used to treat an array of illnesses including, allergies, asthma, chronic pain, fatigue, and a multitude of acute & chronic diseases.
Today, we’re going to go over some chronic diseases that may be helped by the Myers Cocktail IV.
Treating Fibromyalgia Syndrome
Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is a common clinical disorder that causes widespread pain and muscle tenderness. The pain is often accompanied by chronic fatigue, sleep disturbance, and depressed mood.
Approximately 3.4% of women in the United States suffer from FMS, which is about 10 times the prevalence in men.
Myers Cocktail IVs are believed to help alleviate the symptoms that come with FMS. According to this study, the IV group experienced significantly improved tender points, pain, depression, and quality of life directly following treatment. The placebo group experienced improvement, but it was only slight.
The study also found that those who received the IV felt the effects for up to four weeks after treatment, while the placebo group’s effects did not.
Acute Asthma Attacks
The Myers Cocktail IV has also shown to help those with asthma. This is due to the vitamin C. Vitamin C has an antiviral effect in higher concentrations, which makes it especially valuable in treating acute viral respiratory infections. It can also destroy histamine, thus helping alleviate allergies, asthma, and hives.
Magnesium also helps. It promotes muscle relaxation around blood vessels and bronchial airways, which often tense during asthma attacks. Several double-blind studies have shown IV magnesium treatment for severe asthmatics lowered the hospitalization rate by about 50%.
Migraines
Migraines respond well to IV magnesium infusions with several clinical trials showing complete relief in most patients. Even the migraine-associated symptoms of nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to light were resolved following the IV treatment!
Significant research has shown that people with migraines often have lower levels of magnesium than those without them. One study actually found that regular intake of magnesium reduced the frequency of migraine attacks by 41.6 percent. Other research has shown that taking daily magnesium supplements can be effective at preventing menstrual-related migraines.
Fatigue
Vitamin B12 is a powerhouse: it helps fortify your bones, boost your mood, give you energy, and more. Without it, your body can feel like someone attached 10-pound weights to your arms, legs, and brain.
A lot of older people are actually deficient in B12 as well, so feeling that fatigue is a very common thing. The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey estimated that 3.2% of adults over age 50 have a seriously low B12 level, and up to 20% may have a borderline vitamin B12 deficiency.
Therefore, simply taking vitamin B12 can combat the symptoms of a deficiency, including fatigue!
Even if you’re not deficient, B12 plays a significant role in converting food into energy. Without enough of it, you may not be getting the full benefit of a meal.
Where Can You Get a Myers Cocktail IV?
Without two men, the Myers Cocktail and the IV industry wouldn’t exist, at least not as prominently as it does today. In the 1940s, Dr. John Myers, a physician in Maryland, used nutrient injections to treat chronic conditions. His work became popularized by Dr. Alan Gaby, who named a cocktail of vitamins after the late Dr. Myers.
Dr. Gaby found that Dr. Myers used a 10-mL syringe and administered a slow IV push that contained high concentrations of magnesium chloride, calcium gluconate, thiamine, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, calcium pantothenate, vitamin B complex, vitamin C, and diluted hydrochloric acid. Since 2018, Dr. Gaby administered over 15,000 Myers injections in his office.
If you recall, the Myers Cocktail today uses some of the same ingredients. The calcium was likely cut out due to the high risk of vitamin toxicity.
The medical community has been using IV therapy for years to treat all kinds of conditions. Dr. Myers and Dr. Gaby normalized it and made the cocktail recipe available to the general public. IV therapy businesses began pairing the vitamins with fluids to hydrate their patients too.
It has since become one of the most widely administered cocktails in the IV therapy industry. Outside of treating chronic illness, those who receive it tend to feel a boost of lasting energy and often report being in better health. Those that feel the results often report the effects lasting for several days.
